Why My Jerk Level is Over 9000

For the longest time, I made fun of my husband-o’s love for all things Dragonball. I judged him and his love for 30 episodes of powering up. I laughed at him for enjoying 200 episodes of filler. I told him he was the world’s biggest idiot for actually watching both Dragonball and Dragonball Z, especially considering the series has no cute girls.
Then Dragonball Kai was released, and I said I would watch it. “HD recut, eh? Why not, it’ll make the nerd happy (and I have nothing better to do)” I thought. So we watched the first episode. Then the second. And a horrible thing happened. I found myself thinking “man this anime is totally badass and manly….WAIT WHAT”
Yeah, that’s right. I am enjoying Dragonball Kai, something I totally spend 2-3 years making fun of someone for loving. Damnit.
I am a person who hates, hates filler. I will skip episodes of crap and read summaries, because if it has no real point, why the fuck do I care? I want kissing and crying and epic manly battles, not bullshit beach episodes or hot springs. I want episodes where I don’t hover over the info menu, staring at the time, wishing it was over. It’s weird that I get that from Dragonball, a series renouned for it’s filler.
Kai is a recut of Dragonball Z: dumbing the series down from 297 episodes to approx. 100, and broadcasting in HD. The animation isn’t really upscaled–it’s the same as it was 20 years ago, honestly–but it’s the cuts that make it awesome. Things that originally happened in episode 10 are happening in episode 2. It’s mind-blowing, awesome madness. It is fast-paced and exciting (and manly). I am loving the hell out of it. Even despite the lack of cute girls (Bulma, your hair is awful).
I am still a huge jerk, though. Oops.
PS: I didn’t realize until David pointed it out that the belt around saiyans.. is actually their tail. MIND = BLOWN
PPS: It is impossible to find Dragonball fanart that isn’t dickgirls or shit drawn by Billy, age 8.
tl;dr I am a Dragonball fag now thanks to Kai.
A Little Late, Gurren Lagann Style

I finally decided to stop procrastinating and start Gurren Lagann, and I am probably the last person on the internets to do so. I’ve spoiled myself blind, though, so I already know pretty much the entire plotline, but the so far, it is incredibly enjoyable. Yoko is absolutely kickass, and Kamina really is the King of GAR (thanks, 4chan!). I’m really looking forward to marathoning up to 24, so I may join the ranks of all the other fans who nearly kill themselves waiting for subs. I don’t think I’ve read a bad review yet for the series so far (excluding the episode 4 fiasco, of course), so this ought to be a nice treat. I just can’t wait until Nia is introduced, because she is mega moe!
