Umineko Episode 2, Pt. III

Genji meets up with Beatrice (who is finally wearing her more casual outfit) in the reception hall, and Beatrice wants to see Kinzo.
As they are walking to his study, Kyrie sees them, and is kind of shocked to actually see the “Golden Witch” in person. Trying to give her a friendly greeting, she says hello and asks her name, to which Beatrice LOL’s and tells her to fuck off. They continue on to Kinzo’s study. Natsuhi taps Kyrie on the shoulder, asking if she’s alright. Kyrie says she has a headache, and Natsuhi offers her some headache medicine. Beatrice and Genji arrive at Kinzo’s study, but as she tries to open the door, her hand is burnt badly by a magical charm places on the door. Beatrice laughs, saying that her reuniting with Kinzo is not meant to be until the “roulette” chooses a winner. She seems to be having extra fun with this, now.
Kanon is headed off to the Honoured Guest room in the mansion, a place that has been meticulously cleaned and cared for, in case Beatrice comes back, with a lunch cart. He enters and calls out the Beatrice, who smiles and tells Kanon there is no better skill then that of cooking. She starts teasing Kanon, telling him she can release him from being furniture, if only she would surrender to her and kiss her shoe. Kanon resists, and Beatrice says she will use Shannon and George to fufill the Second Twilight if he doesn’t give in. It doesn’t matter to her, since this is all a big game anyways, so he is giving him the choice to choose what happens. Kanon gives in and kisses her shoe, causing Beatrice to freak out laughing with amusement.
We go back to the parlor, with everyone having tea and relaxing. Since all the children are present, they can’t discuss the inheritance, so they talk about their children and other small talk. Battler decides to take a nap, because he is lazy like me, and Jessica makes a comment about how, even though he’s the main guest this conference, he doesn’t even notice is. Battler laughs, saying it’s not his turn on the stage yet. Jessica is pissed off as usual, but George convinces her to leave it be.
Beatrice is laughing from above, as Battler is confused/pissed off by her current ‘moves’. He doesn’t like the way she’s taking her turn, and is pissed that she countered his 18/19 people argument so quickly/well. He says that everything “magical’ she did can be explained off; she obviously had an extra candy in her pocket, and Rosa was just hallucinating and saw her fix the candy wrong. Beatrice is amused by Battler’s resistance.
Kyrie tells the siblings that she saw someone resembing Beatrice, and everything goes to shit. Nobody is sure what to do, because they are all assuming she’s here to snatch away all of the inheritence; whether she pretends to be Beatrice’s daughter or just pretends to be the witch is not known. They all pretty desperately need money at this point, so Kyrie uses her “chessboard thinking” to try and calm them down. They all decide not take anything she [Beatrice] says as truth until it can be proven off the island. Eva says nothing on Rokkenjima is truth, and Kyrie finds that kind of odd, but truthful. She assumes that everything on this island–cut off from humanity in every way–is no longer ‘truth’. Man, Kyrie is one smart son of a bitch.

Maria and Rosa are together, and Rosa asks if that really was Beatrice they saw in the garden, and how often Maria ‘played’ with her. when Maria says every year, Rosa starts to lose it a bit. She asks Maria what they did together, and Maria says “sang, drew magic circles”. Maria shows her photos in her notebook that Beatrice drew as “models”. Rosa then remembers the envelope Beatrice gave to her, and debates opening it. She assumes it must have something to do with the inheritance, and if she reads it now she can warn the rest of the siblings, since they are all trying to get shitloads of money. Just as Rosa goes to open the envelope, Maria stops her, telling her not to break a promise with a witch. Rosa is getting kind of creeped out by Maria, and Maria says that Beatrice is always near her, creeping Rosa out even further. Damn, Maria’s kind of psycho too (but also kind of annoying).
Shannon, George and Jessica are in a room together wondering where Maria is. George just assumes she is playing with Battler at the mansion, and the three of them start talking about George and Shannon’s relationship. George is very open about his love for Shannon/wants for their future, which makes Jessica jealous and Shannon embarassed. Jessica asks how George plans to convince Eva, and George tells her it’s no problem, he’ll convince her. It doesn’t matter to anyone else who he chooses, because Shannon makes him happy.
Gohda is throwing a shitfit in the kitchen, because he’s not allowed to serve Beatrice dinner, because he lacks the Ushiromiya Golden Eagle. Genji tells him to shut up, Shannon is doing it, because she is second in rank amongst the servants. Gohda finds this extremely irritating. Kanon sneaks up behind Shannon and tells her Gohda is a horrible man, and to ignore him. They start talking about Beatrice, and Kanon tells her that Beatrice is here to invite people into the Golden Land, which shocks her, as she sort of realizes Beatrice has been playing with her all along. Kanon freaks out, telling her she should of left well enough alone, because then they would of surely become human together. He tells her that Beatrice agreed to spare her life from sacrifice if she refuses George’s engagement ring. Shannon declines, saying her heart won’t allow her to do that, Golden Land or not. Kanon freaks out more, because he wants to see the Golden Land together with her, and finally know love. Shannon realizes that Kanon has been suffering with feelings for Jessica ever since she [Jessica] confessed to him in the garden. Kanon flees, not wanting Shannon to see his tears, and Shannon heads up to Beatrice’s room.
Krauss and Genji are outside Kinzo’s room, with Krauss trying to convince him to come out. Kinzo tells him to fuck off, because those people downstairs are not his children, they are vultures and maggots. Krauss shrugs and leaves, knowing this would be the outcome. Inside the study, Nanjo and Kinzo are involved in a very rigorous game of chess. Kinzo has spent forever trying to come up with a move, and Nanjo interrupts, saying he wants to suspend the game so the two of them can eat. Kinzo is a bit irritated, but realizes he can’t play chess without a partner. Nanjo quips that, back in the day, Kinzo always used to say chess was not just good for winner, but good for spending time with old friends. Kinzo laughs and tells Nanjo he enjoyed all their time together, and he hopes they can meet again in the Golden Land. Until then, he is no longer welcome in his study. Nanjo shrugs, probably assuming it’s a joke, and leaves for supper.

Shannon arrives at Beatrice’s room, and starts preparing her supper. Beatrice asks if she heard from Kanon what she said, and Shannon says yes. She thanks Beatrice anyways, for allowing her to spend time with her love before her game. Beatrice is confused, and tells Shannon to shut up, because she is furniture. Shannon tells Beatrice to fuck right off, saying no, she is not furniture, she is now human. Humans don’t know about fate or destiny. She will accept George’s ring and live life to the fullest, knowing that death is mere hours away. Beatrice finds this both troubling and amusing, and tells Shannon she is amusing her far too much, and, even though she is human, she still does not fear death. Shannon decides to give Beatrice a proverbial punch in the face, and will no longer amuse her by responding to her questions. She chooses to ignore Beatrice, and live life to the fullest, until her time to become a sacrifice with George comes. Beatrice is pissed, and tells Shannon she hopes she enjoys forever being in a cycle of rebirth/death, and Shannon tells Beatrice to fuck off again. Shannon leaves, slamming the door behind her, leaving Beatrice kind of befuddled. She thinks she must be too young to still enjoy living after 1,000 years.
The family is now seated to dinner, and Gohda is breaking apart their meals contents. Krauss mentions something about the sauce, which Gohda responds perfectly to. Krauss chuckles, saying he did it for Eva’s sake, since she didn’t seem to know the meal was French-style. All of them start arguing about.. sauce (??????), while remaining very cautious, since they have not seen the “19th guest”. They all assume she’ll join them during supper, even though there is no place for her. The siblings start to think it is an assassin sent to give Krauss an advantage at the inheritance, and debate speaking to Krauss about it before things escalate. Kyrie breaks the silence and decides to ask whether or not that mysterious guest is coming down to join them. Natsuhi assumes she’s being rude and talking about Kinzo, and tells her she’s an idiot for not listening when Krauss said he wouldn’t be coming. Battler, being blunt, inquires about another guests, too. All eyes turn to Gohda, who, like an idiot, says the honoured guest wanted to eat in her room, so she also won’t be joining them. Everyone is confused as fuck. The sibling’s go to each others throats, and Natsuhi demands for Genji to come down. Rosa admits that she saw Beatrice (much to Maria’s delight), and so does Kyrie. Everyone assumes, if Natsuhi and Krauss didn’t do it, Kinzo must of, and she came on a seperate boat in secret. Everyone concludes that because someone saw her, she obviously exists (uh, okay). They all start arguing about the inheritance, and Rosa tells them to stfu, and then asks the children to return to the guesthouse.
Genji finally arrives at the guesthouse, and, once the children have left, asks what the fuck is going on. All the siblings ask: what is Beatrice doing in the honoured guest room, and who the fuck is she?
MAN this is getting INTENSE, I love it. Everyone freaking out about Beatrice was great, but I especially love Shannon’s conversation with Beatrice in her room. Shannon was WAY more badass then I expected her to be. It was nice to see her give Beatrice the finger and stick up for herself, knowing full-well what she has couldn’t have happened without the witch. Shannon, why aren’t you like this all the time? Then you would be badass.
I’m really looking forward to the rest of the story, since now all the good/violent/gory bits are coming up.
