Umineko Episode 2, Pt. II

Rosa and Maria are on a train headed to the Family Conference. Maria won’t stop crying because she wants Halloween candy, and Rosa starts  to lose her patience. an old lady offers Maria a piece of candy, and Rosa explodes, hitting Maria and telling the old lady to mind her own business.

Natsuhi and Krauss are discussing the inevitable fight for Kinzo’s money. Krauss is distraught because he feels like everyone is always watching/judging him, because he’s next in line to be the family head. Natsuhi tries to console him, to no effect. It’s shared that Natsuhi is in cahoots with Nanjo and Genji to keep Kinzo in his study, so none of the other siblings can try to persuade the family fortune out of him.

Maria and Rosa finally arrive at the train station and Rosa continues to hit and berate Maria, while she screams and cries and U-uuu’s. After awhile, a train station attendant comes over to check on things, and Rosa realizes she’s being kind of a bitch. The two of them go on the lookout for some Halloween candy, missing their train to the airport.

The servants are all busy getting ready for the Conference. Shannon and Kanon are preparing the guest house for the cousins, this Gohda is preparing their meals. Genji reminds them that this weekend is tres important, and to not make any mistakes.

The rest of the Ushiromiya’s are waiting at the airport, after their flight was delayed due to rocky weather conditions. George is in a bathroom stall practicing his proposal to Shannon, while the others are outside talking amongst themselves. Rosa and Maria finally arrive, and Maria is skeptical of Battler, until he starts talking about Halloween. Everyone is SHOKKU’D at how fast Battler and Maria became friends, even after Battler’s 6 year absence from the Family Conference.

Jessica is hiding from Natsuhi in the Reception Hall, and comes across Kumasawa. She pushes Kumasawa for information about Beatrice, because Kumasawa’s been on the island for forever and a day. Kumasawa feigns ignorance and rehashes the same stories Jessica’s been told by her grandfather [Kinzo]. Kumasawa lets it slip that the island used to be called Akujikishima (Evil Appetite Island, apparently) amongst the fisherman, because everyone who came close was eaten by demons. One day, someone managed to shut all the demons inside a mirror and shrine, until they were destroyed by a thunder storm the last summer. Jessica LOL’s. Kumasawa gets srs and says the demon spirits woke up and summoned Beatrice, and she’s probably gonna fuck shit up at the Family Conference.

Rudolf is on the phone with Kyrie, discussing how your heart and wallet both need to be rich. Someone is trying to bring down Rudolf’s company, but they compromise. With the right amount of cash, they will drop their charges and let Rudolf and his company off. However will he get the money?! Oh. Right.

Rudolf wakes up on the plane, and Kyrie asks if he’s okay. He says he is a jerk and a vulture for relying on Kinzo’s wealth for so long, and he is going to hell.

Nanjo and Kinzo are discussing the conference. Nanjo thinks Kinzo is stupid for not wanting to see his children/grandchildren 24/7. Kinzo just wants Beatrice to come back and love him. Nanjo mentions that Battler’s back for the first  time in 6 years, and Kinzo doesn’t care. He just wants some sweet Beatrice loving. He then mentions that another “long gone” guest may be returning this year.

The game cuts to Beatrice and Battler (I’m assuming this is at the ‘tea party’ thing from the first episode), with Beatrice asking if he’s ready to play this game. She tells him she’ll keep playing this over and over again, until Battler gives in and believes in witches. Battler laughs and tells her to shut up, because he won’t give in: this will be torture for Beatrice, not himself. Beatrice finds this amusing, and thus the game begins.

The family is making their way to the guest house, but they stop briefly to admire the rose garden. They get to talking about Maria’s love for Halloween, and Battler asks her why she loves it so much, and what significance witches have. Maria tells the story about how Halloween is about.. crops or something, I don’t remember. Anyways, Battler makes the mistake of asking who Beatrice is, which ruins Maria’s mood. Maria briefly explains Beatrice, embarassing Rosa, so she quickly butts in and asks Kanon to leave, and for Gohda to guide them to the guest house. As they make their way over, Rosa stops Maria. Once everyone is out of sight, Rosa beats the crap out of Maria for embarassing her and continuing on with her stupid witch stories. Maria begs for her “real” Mama to come back, and Rosa rips the Halloween candy she bought for Maria out of her hand and tramples it. She storms off to the guest house, leaving Maria alone. Kanon comes out from behind a bush and tries to console Maria, but to no avail. Rosa makes it to the guest house and goes off to her room, and bawls like a baby. (geez, Rosa is really, really bipolar.)

The siblings have gathered in the lounge, and Nanjo announces that Kinzo will not be joining them. The siblings are suspicious, especially since he apparently only has 3 months left to live. Nanjo reassures them that he’s fine, just immersed in his studies. Eva gets snippy and bitchy. Rosa and Kyrie go off and talk amongst themselves, and Kyrie tells Rosa she’s noticed how much Maria has grown. Rosa is confused, and Kyrie explains that after spending so much time with Maria, she probably doesn’t notice small changes. As the weather worsens, Rosa remembers she left Maria out in the rose garden, and interrupts their conversation to go get her.

Rosa finds Maria standing in the same place as before, waiting for her to return. The two make up, and Rosa tries to convince her to come inside, but Maria says no. She’s waiting for Beatrice to come and play, so she can give her Halloween candy. Rosa is confused, until a clap of thunder sounds and, lo and behold, Beatrice herself shows up. Maria is overjoyed, and gives Beatrice the candy. She notices Maria’s candy is smushed and ruined, and Maria asks her to fix it. Beatrice asks Maria to close her eyes and remember the candy, and she throws it in the air and fixes it. Rosa is confused as fuck and has no idea what is going on. Beatrice gives Maria a letter in exchange for the candy, and tells her not to open it until the time is right, as it will then become an invitation to the Golden Land. Beatrice also gives Rosa a letter to read to everyone at dinner (I’m assuming this is the letter from episode one that caused all the ruckus). Beatrice leaves, telling Maria to go inside for lunch. She tells Rosa she’ll meet with her later, at a more appropriate time.

Holy shit, is Rosa ever psycho. Beatrice is still badass. I feel kind of bad for Krauss. I’m also starting to dislike Maria, because she is kind of annoying. I’d much rather read about Beato being psychotic and threatening peoples lives. I like the little scenes of Beatrice and Battler having it out over the changes Beatrice is making to try and prove him wrong. GODDAMN WHEN DO BERNKASTEL AND LAMBDADELTA GET HERE

I’m just after the second twilight is fulfilled in ep 2 (don’t know if you know it yet so i won’t spoil) and Beato is awesome with her psychotic moments. I hope Battler loses to Beato and lick her shoes ;P

  • Ashleigh says:

Ah, I love spoilers, so no worries. :D AND HECK YES I AM SO EXCITED NOW. I dunno, Beatrice’s psychotic moments are great. I would love it if Battler lost horribly and had to lick clean all of Beato’s shoes. I’d assume after so many years, she would have a lot of footwear lying around.

  • dood says:

There is something I need confirmation, Kanon and Jessica are slaughtered by Beato right ?
Then when the survivors discover the body of only Jessica they try to make Kanon a suspect so they won’t have to suspect the other servants and then Beato and Battler start talking about what happened like Battler didn’t see all the laser sword fighting so my question does Battler only see the events as they occurred through his second body’s eyes ?
and the entire time they are arguing I can’t take them seriously since we are shown unnatural thing (like a goat headed servant with the Ushiromiya crest).
From these events it seems Battler is fighting a lost cause.

Never mind just finished episode 2, just wow….

  • Ashleigh says:

    AFAIK, yeah, they were.

Man, this sounds so epic, I’m really excited to finish episode 2. It’d be a wicked twist if Battler actually lost.. :D
