Game Review: Blue Dragon Plus

Blue Dragon Plus takes place one year after the original 360 game; the world still loves cube worlds that came as a result of the first game, but the team soon discovers new threats via a three-headed dragon shadow called Balaur. Cue game.

I never played the original Blue Dragon game, so at the beginning I was really, really confused about what was going on. I didn’t get the gameplay at first, either. I plowed on however due to a) how awesome the music was b) hoping they would flashback/go into detail about the first game. Which it did, to a degree. I did a bit of reading up on top of the info it gave me and I got a much better idea, though the battle system was still kinda.. weird. I never really truly got used to it.

The music, however, was wicked awesome throughout the whole game. Loved the battle music and even just regular background stuff. I was also right about my original thoughts towards the Akira Toriyama designs: they did take awhile to get used to. The game itself also starts off really slow and took quite a bit to get really good..

Only really negative things I can think of, other then the game being pretty slow, was I found the in-game text to be really difficult to read. It clashed horribly with the text boxes, and I found myself having to strain a couple times to read it.. oh, and the lack of cute girls. But that’s just me.

Overall, it was a pretty decent game. Probably not something I would of picked up without someone telling me about it, first (despite liking TRPGs), but probably a franchise I’ll keep closer eye on in the future. Now I just need to go back and play the first game!
