Series Review: Kodomo no Jikan

kodomo2

Kodomo no Jikan has been a very fun series to watch, containing many comical moments and mishaps! The character artwork is very enjoyable to watch, and the opening and ending fit very well to the theme of the show.

Kodomo no Jikan tells the story of Daisuke Aoki, a 23-year old elementary school teacher. For his first year of teaching he is assigned to class 3-1 at Futatsubashi Elementary School, a somewhat wild and uncontrollable class who drove their previous teacher out of school.

There he meets Rin Kokonoe, a third year elementary school student, and her two friends Kuro Kagami and Mimi Usa.

The first time he arrives at the classroom he walks in on the female students changing. Shocked, he turns around, apologizes, and leaves. Later, when he’s introducing himself to the class, Rin and Kuro poke fun at him for walking in on them while they were changing. However, they do it in a very perverted/eechi way, leading the viewer to believe that Aoki is a lolicon.

This is basically how the rest of the series plays out — Aoki being teased by his students for being a lolicon, Rin clinging to him, and Kuro kicking him and knocking him out; many comical moments.

Episode 6 — This episode really throws the flow of the comical-theme out the window. The entire episode focuses on Rin’s mother and her cousin Reiji. The tone of this episode is very serious, and the end of the episode might leave you crying, as it’s very very emotional.

I feel that, while this does fill the viewer in on the back story of Rin and Reiji, the very serious tone of the episode in comparison with the other episodes just doesn’t fit.

As the series wrapped up, the comical-theme yet again fades away and a more serious tone takes over.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series and I would recommend it to anyone who likes this style of anime, it’s been very fun to watch and I would watch it again.
